... to the Cicada: Platonic Works + Days.
Performance at ANIMART 2016, Organization: The Milena Principle - Forum, Delphi, 23/07/2016.
The performance reproduced as reenactment or act of mimesis the introduction of the Platonic Phaedrus:
Socrates and Phaedrus meet in the city at noon, come out of the walls and walk under the sun and the summer heat, until they reach a shady spot on the river Ilissos, where they can talk effortlessly about love and writing.
Description
The group met in a very hot summer day at noon near the source of Castalia in Apollo’s Sanctuary at Delphi.
Walked to a spring near the church of Agios Nektarios.
Arrived under the shade of the plane trees exhausted and overheated.
Sat exhausted on a row on both sides of the groove.
Covered the heads with shawls, like Socrates while speaking.
All of a sudden the cold spring water has been allowed to flow into the groove to cool the feet.
Meanwhile the seated participants in the deafening accompaniment of the cicadas listened to the reading of excerpts from Phaedrus, and an excerpt from the Works and Day of Hesiod as well.
